Golden Years – Tracey Ullman’s A Class Act – tape 1492

First on this tape, episode 2 of Stephen King’s Golden Years. Keith Szarabajka has noticed he’s gradually getting younger.

Shady agent RD McCall is threatening the scientist from the research center with ad hoc dental surgery.

Another appearance from Frances Sternhagen. Always a plus.

Felicity Huffman is definitely going for a Sharon Stone vibe with her character

McCall kills a photojournalist, which is probably a good thing because the guy was using a camera that was old in the 1940s.

As if this programme isn’t slow enough, we get a flashback to see how McCall and Huffman used to work together. It appears they worked together in a Bacardi advert.

After this, there’s the start of Ready Steady Go. The audience are a little bit familiar with the band. That’s Mick Jagger there.

They even get the Beatles to do an intro.

Recording switches, and there’s Tracey Ullman’s A Class Act. Some heavy prosthetics there.

Appearances from Timothy Spall

Michael Palin plays a 7 year old in a parody of 35-Up.

Ullman and Palin are also a couple.

This isn’t bad. I found the long sketch about the working class girl sent to a private school who ends up despising her parents – to their delight – very sad.

After this. recording switches to the end of ITV News, some weather, London Tonight.

Then, an episode of The South Bank Showabout Dracula, tying in with the release of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Chris Frayling is a Stoker expert.

Here’s some members of the Vampyre Society

Winona Ryder appears, talking about the erotic nature of Dracula.

OK, now I’m seriously freaked out. I tend to watch these tapes while doing other stuff. Often scrolling through twitter. While the show is talking about the old silent film Nosferatu, someone on Twitter retweets this tweet into my timeline.

And less than a minute later, as I was showing this tweet to my family and wondering, loudly, if I’m somehow experiencing a glitch in the matrix with all these coincidences, EXACTLY THAT SHOT plays out on screen. Really, I’m starting to worry. If only I could harness this power for good.

Wow, the programme managed to get Christopher Lee to talk about Dracula.

I don’t think I’ve seen Jim Hart being interviewed before. He was quite busy around this time, I think.

Director Francis Coppola is also interviewed

As is star Gary Oldman

After this programme, the recording continues with the start of The James Whale Question. Surely the answer is no?

Recording stops during this programme.

In the adverts, I noticed an advert for Lea & Perrins’ Tomato Ketchup with Worcestershire Sauce, but they caption it ‘Worcester Sauce’. Very odd.
